Almost every wilderness activity in this part of Alaska requires at least some travel by sea. Are you organizing a multi-day kayak expedition or a cross-island hike? Are you hoping to relax with a few days of tent camping or do you prefer the relative coziness of a Forest Service cabin or shelter? Or, are you just planning a great day trip – to beachcomb along a stretch of wild coast; to trek to the summit Mt Edgecumbe; or take a relaxing soak at Goddard Hotsprings? Whatever your plans, Sitka Sound Ocean Adventures can provide safe, reliable & economical transportation to any location up to 75-nautical miles from Sitka.
Our Boat & Captain
Our boat, the Cuvacan, is a very sturdy 25-foot Carolina Skiff that has been specially outfitted to transport up to 6-passengers, all with kayaks or mountain bikes, plus enough gear and provisions to do a multi-week expedition. She is fast, agile and fuel efficient. We can get you into narrow landings and shallow areas that would require guests on a larger vessel to wade or raft to shore. Our Captain, John, has been operating sightseeing cruises and marine transportation in SE Alaska for over 25-years. In addition to being an expert mariner, John enthusiastically shares his knowledge of the history, ecology and wildlife of the area with all who ride with him.
Scheduling & Rates
We operate our water taxi service April through September, seven days per week. Departure and pick-up times are set according to the preferences of each party, with guidance on tide and weather considerations provided by Captain John. Our rates are based on a sliding scale that factors the round-trip running distance required and the number of passengers in your party. For group sizes larger than 6-persons we can usually arrange for a second vessel. Please email or call to receive a price quote specific to your itinerary and group size. Our rates for this kind of service are the best you’ll find anywhere.
