Hello there!  Welcome to Sitka Sound Ocean Adventures.

We have a few questions for you:  When you were a kid, were you the one who was always being reminded to not touch everything?  When you’re on a road trip, do you have trouble getting to where you’re supposed to be going because so many side roads look too interesting to just pass by?  When you get around water – any natural body of water – do you just have to get in it, on it or at least as close as possible?  Well then, you’ve probably come to the right place.  We have all those tendencies, and that’s why we got into sea kayaking.  With us, the journey is the destination.  Come on in, wander about, and please let us know how we can help plan – or be a part of – your perfect Alaska adventure.

Sitka Sound Ocean Adventures is a small, family-owned business.

We operate a variety of guided sea kayak programs, from the 2.5-hour Harbor & Islands Paddle, to the full-day Volcano Coast Cruise & Paddle, to multi-day Wild Coast Expeditions.  For those who like exploring on their own, we also provide kayak rentals and outfitter services.  Our base of operations is the Big Blue Bus at Crescent Harbor.  We are in this business because of our love for exploring wild Alaska, and the fun we have sharing it with others.  It is our intention to earn, every day, a reputation for running the finest-quality kayak tours available.  All our adventures are conducted with a very low participant/guide ratio, normally 6-to-1 or lower.

We consider our home, Sitka, to be the crown jewel of Alaska.

Perched on the rugged western edge of Baranof Island, and framed by views of island-studded waters and the elegant profile of a dormant volcano, we certainly lay claim the most-beautiful setting.  There is much evidence on display to showcase the town’s fascinating history and blend of cultures: Tlingit art and totem poles, Russian architecture, rows of colorful fishing boats, and the remains of WWII-era fortifications now being reclaimed by the rainforest.  Sitka is home to about 8,600 very friendly folks.  And we are outnumbered by almost every species of wildlife in the neighborhood.

Sitka is the ultimate base for starting a sea kayaking adventure.

Sitka is one of very few communities in the state that are actually situated on the outer coast, which offers a maze of narrow passages and countless islands.  The majority of this pristine marine wilderness is fringed by poorly-charted reefs and vast kelp forests – places that are best explored up-close, by sea kayak.  Much of this environment is inaccessible by any other means.  Quite simply, there is no better place in the world for sea kayaking.

Are you coming to Alaska, or even just dreaming about it?

We invite you to join us this summer …

… to explore the coast less paddled.
